The National Strangulation Training Institute (NSTI) provides training and technical assistance to family violence professionals throughout the world on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Strangulation Crimes. The NSTI is the comprehensive federal technical assistance and training provider for the United States Department of Justice for all OVW grantees. The NSTI also works with jurisdictions outside the federal initiative in the U.S. and abroad. In this capacity, the NSTI provides consulting, training, resources, and support services to family violence professionals. The services provided by the Alliance assist jurisdictions in obtaining the most current, comprehensive information on intimate partner violence strangulation crimes. Professionals learn how to identify the signs and symptoms of strangulation cases; identify the anatomy and medical aspects of surviving and non-surviving victims; investigate and document intimate partner violence strangulation cases for prosecution; master legal aspects of strangulation cases with strangulation victims; use experts in court; understand the lethality of strangulation; and, most importantly, enhance victim safety. To access resources on this topic, visit the NSTI Resource Library.
