CHATTANOOGA, TN — Chattanooga CIty Councilwoman Carol Berz announced on Thursday that she will seek re-election to serve as the representative for District 6 on the Chattanooga City Council.
“I promised that if I was fortunate enough to win my first election, I’d work hard on behalf of those sending me to City Hall. Since that time, the voters in my district have repeatedly supported the work we’ve done throughout the District. It’s an honor I don’t take lightly and when re-elected, I’ll continue this commitment,” Berz says.
Berz says one of the biggest opportunities for her community is the placement of the City’s new Family Justice Center within her district. “This facility is truly transformational,” she said. “Once the new center opens, we will be able to address the critical needs of people who are at the lowest places in their lives.” In addition, Berz says the facility that houses the Family Justice Center will serve as a central gathering place for a variety of community activities and events.
Berz says that regularly scheduled summits in the district have provided opportunities for the entire district to come together to talk about challenges and resources to meet community needs. Berz said, “District 6 has always been a district of change. We face our challenges and work together for the best interest of everyone. It’s what makes our community such a great place to live, work and play.” It is through her collaborative efforts with the public and private sector, Berz notes, that District 6 has experienced a surge in economic growth and revitalization, job creation, and updated zoning practices that help protect the integrity of neighborhoods and improve quality of life.
Berz is the immediate past chair of the Chattanooga City Council. She currently chairs the Budget and Finance Committee and co-chairs the Mayor’s Council for Women. She is the CEO of Private Dispute Resolution Services, a mediation services and training organization headquartered in District 6.
A civil and family mediator, Dr. Berz is listed by the Supreme Court of Tennessee as a Rule 31 Neutral and Trainer in General Civil Mediation, Family Mediation and the special circumstance of Domestic Violence. In addition, Dr. Berz does extensive teaching in both the public and private sectors regarding mediation, law and ethics, and collaborative problem-solving in the areas of health care, employment and labor management issues and government relations.
District 6 consists of the following precincts:
