A Triad camp is supporting children in need by helping them learn important wellness habits.
Camp Hope is a national program that helps kids impacted by violence and abuse. It is locally sponsored by the Guilford County Family Justice Center and takes place at Camp Weaver in Greensboro.
Sgt. Dale Nix oversaw the Greensboro Police Department’s family victims unit, which investigates abuse cases for the Guilford County FJC. The center’s director says Nix helped recruit kids for the camp. And now, donations are being made in his memory to help continue its work.
“If you needed a ride, he would pick you up. If they needed a meal, he would fix the plate,” said Catherine Johnson, director of the Guilford County FJC. “So, he was just one of those go-to partners, and we have several who are like that, who really saw this as a part of their mission in working to create a safer community.”
Camp Hope will wrap up Friday, Aug. 16.
