County has option for 32,000 square foot building in Oxnard.
Ventura County has announced plans for a family justice center, which would provide services to crime victims in the county. The county has an option to buy a 32,000 square foot building in downtown Oxnard for the complex.
It still has to go through an environmental review, and needs final approval from Ventura County Supervisors. The deal calls for the county to buy the South A Street building for $4.1 million.
The center is intended to make victims services more accessible to people in Oxnard and Port Hueneme. It will be called the Carmen Ramirez Family Justice Center.
The late county supervisor was a big advocate for undocumented residents, who often have a hard time getting justice, as well as victim support because of cultural and language barriers.
