Webinar: The New York City Model for Economic Empowerment 

The Family Justice Center Alliance talks with Survivors in every community we visit, and the message from Survivors across our communities is clear: financial abuse is a tactic used by abusers in most, if not all relationships where domestic violence dynamics are at play. Power and control extends into the financial realm in many nuanced and layered ways, and Survivors want more and better help when it comes to navigating the complexities of financial well-being. We are thrilled to offer this webinar and learn from our friends at the New York City Family Justice Centers who are taking a comprehensive, collaborative approach to meeting the needs of Survivors as it relates to financial well-being and empowerment.

This webinar will provide an overview of the economic empowerment and housing advocacy services provided to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence at the New York City Family Justice Centers. Staff from the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) who operate the City’s Family JusticeCenters and specialized partner staff from on-site partner, Arab American Family Support Center, will discuss the specific financial advocacy, economic empowerment and housing support services and programs provided at the five, borough based New York City Family Justice Centers. Staff will discuss how they have embedded these services into the Center’s day to day operations and work collaboratively together to address these critically important survivor needs.
