Redding’s One Safe Place and Children’s Legacy Center are combining.
Representatives with the nonprofits announced their unity initiative on Aug. 6, saying they’ll be sharing an updated mission statement, as well as core values, over the next 13 weeks as they form one organization.
They’ll also be launching a new name this year.
“We’re going to take a different word every single week that represents a core value for who we are as an organization, and then we’re going to associate that word with how it fits into our program and our culture as an organization,” One Safe Place CEO Kimberly Johnson said. “It’s all going to culminate into being able to announce the new name of our new nonprofit.”
She added, “There’s a lot of changes that happen when two organizations come together. And it has been far more inspirational and challenging than I ever could have imagined, seeing a 50-year-old organization with a relatively new startup nonprofit that’s only been around for the last eight years. Blending those two organizations and cultures and community perspectives has been an incredible gift to be a part of.”
Helping victims and providing trauma-informed care will remain at the core of their work.
The updated mission statement will be released next week.
Some other things they’ll be sharing soon are their latest projects and programs, including an upgraded shelter and a new transitional housing program for human trafficking and domestic violence victims getting back on their feet.
